Town of Chesterville
Franklin County, Maine
9/5/2024
Dear Chesterville residents and property owners,
After careful consideration, a brief education, and a meeting with our Assessor, we have decided to proceed with the current tax commitment as is. Tax bills will be sent out in the coming days.
While the land and building values were increased by the 20% and 40% discussed, this did not account for updates to all properties with outbuildings, which had not been updated since 2014.
Additionally, if you were the recipient of a stabilized tax bill in 2023, your bill may have gone up more than expected. Please understand that's because the state paid the difference in your 2023 tax bill, where this year, it is not stabilized and has to catch up with the 2024 tax rate.
If you still believe your property value has increased unfairly, please schedule an appointment to discuss it with the Assessor. At this time, the Board feels that the current tax commitment is as fair and equitable as possible without conducting a costly, town-wide revaluation.
We greatly appreciate your patience over the last week while we worked through all of this.

If you are wondering who is the one going around Chesterville during the day knocking on doors, it is a university student from Europe, Slovakia — Sona Book girl Brezaniova, she is doing a summer exchange program selling educational books and apps for families from young toddler all the way to college prep. This is Sona’s 1st week in Chesterville, so if you see her, don't be shy to say hi to her. Sona is legit and has acquired all her proper licenses. She drives a black Kia Soul with Maine plates. 9/3/2024
